Rabbi Menachem son of Rabbi Binyamin Recanati was one of the great early kabbalists (1223-1290). He was one of the first Italian kabbalists, as well as a significant adjudicator. The Beit Yosef [Orach Chaim, 651] quotes from the book about what the author saw in a dream regarding the four species, and rules halacha based on it.
