Rabbi Natan Adler’s way was to proofread from the depth of his study what needed correction, and his proofreadings’ include corrections to the language of the Gemara, Rashi, Tosafos, Ro’sh throughout the tractate.

Rabbi Nassan Adler’s notes were always condensed to a word or two, no lengthy glosses are therefore known anywhere at all, thus every note, even the shortest one, is extremely important!

It should be noted that even from the distance of the generations and the multitude of proofreaders of the Talmud, as well as magnificent editions with notes and corrections from the greatest sages of the past generations published as of recently, still some of the comments presented here, were not felt at all by anyone. For example, in the words of the Tosfos, page 4b, Tosafos ‘Veod’ etc. Rabbi Adler associates a whole section in the Tosafos with another place, and writes ‘belongs to the above’. Also, sometimes Rabbi Adler wanted to point out a difficult matter to himself, and in most cases he only commented "VeTzorich Iyun’.

"..Here I have already revealed my opinion to all those who stand before me, that I received it from my teachers … and they are my teacher the Gaon and Chasid She’bikhinah, Rabbi Nassan Adler, .. from whose waters I drank… and from whose source I carved…" (Shu’t Chasam sdofer I siman 15)
