Historic! – A sacred letter from the Satmar Rebbe, ZY”A, responding to his appointment as leader of the Eida Hachareidis
The entire letter, written in his handwriting and bearing his holy signature, was sent by the Satmar Rebbe to the Eida Hachareidis leadership on Sunday, Parshas Emor, 1951, upon his appointment as their leader.

Details behind the letter:
In 1949, after the passing of Rabbi Dushinsky, Rabbi Zelig Reuven Bengis was appointed chief rabbi of Yerushalaim. However, the Eida Hachareidis leaders sought the Satmar Rebbe’s influence. Though the Rebbe declined to settle in Yerushalaim, they crowned him “President of the Eida Hachareidis.” The Rebbe sent this letter in response.
Content of the letter:
The Rebbe acknowledges the deep respect for those who fear God in Yerushalaim, expresses gratitude for the title, but humbly questions the decision. He concludes with a sacred blessing for Zion’s joy to be seen speedily.
