Remarkable Discovery! – One-of-a-Kind Manuscript Page by the Holy Chasam Sofer, quoting the words of the Gaon of Vilna! And the only time he brings the words of the holy Rabbi Levi Yitzchak of Barditchev!


A handwritten page by the Chasam Sofer, features between others the Holy Rabbi Levi Yitzchak ben Soroh Sosha of Barditchev, and the Torah leader, the Gaon Rabbi Eliyohu of Vilna – ‘the Gra’. It also expounds on the greatness and holiness of the belongings and clothing of tzadikim, Also reveals mystical secrets based on the holy words of the Zohar.

This large, two-sided page, from the year 1831, agadic novelty on the Torah , starting with commentary on Parshas Toldos and extending to Parshas Vayetzei. 46 lines on side one and 43 lines on the second side.

This holy manuscript, both for its rich content and its historic value, is unparalleled. The significance of this manuscript is evident in a sample of the topics and subjects its dealing with, as follows:

  • The Chasam Sofer transcribes the words of the Gaon of Vilna in the first section. he ends by writing: "Vedivrei Pi Chochom Chein".
  • The second part features a novel explanation by the Chasam Sofer regarding a blessing related to Shabbos observance.
  • He expounds on the greatness and holiness of the belongings and clothing of tzadikim, and the great positive influence it has on people wearing it.
  • Lastly, the manuscript includes the only instance where the Chasam Sofer brings the words of the holy Rabbi Levi Yitzchak ben Sarah Sasha of Barditchev, not calling him by his name only with the title "MEKUBAL ECHOD",  and adds his own commentary.
