Letter from Rabbi Boruch Ber Leibowitz

A Letter begging for assistance from Ha’Gaon Rabbi Boruch Ber Leibowitz, Rosh Yeshivas Kamenitz, author of Birkas Shmuel Tishrei 1937

Letter to Rabbi Yehuda Leib Gurowitz of Melbourne, Australia, begging to send money for food to Yeshivas Kamenitz. Rabbi Baruch Ber expresses his angst, stating that the talmidim are starving and the Yeshiva is in great distress. Its survival is questionable. He finishes the letter with a
Bracha: "May you be granted many good years with Nachas and Simcha and see the Geulah."

Ha’Gaon Rab Boruch Ber Leibowitz (1870-1940) was born in Slutzk. As a child, he was recognized as a genius and studied in Yeshivas Volozhin. He was the prime talmid of the Brisker Rav Rabbi Chaim Soloveitchik. In 1904, he was appointed Rosh Yeshiva in Kneses Beis Yitzchok in Slabodka and 1921 in Kamenitz. He is known throughout the yeshiva world for his profound and deep Seforim, Birkas Shmuel, that follows the method of his Rebbe the Brisker Rav, the leading method of learning Torah in yeshivas. His well-known talmidim are his son-in-law Rabbi Reuvain Grozovsky and Rabbi Moshe Shmuel Shapiro. He was very expressive and warm, and some of his beautiful songs were saved for posterity by his students.
