Bill of Sale in the Holy Handwriting of the "Baal HaRefuos, " the Heilige Gaon, Rav Yisroel Yonah Landau, Av Beis Din of Kempen – 5574

A Bill of Sale for a house, including conditions and numerous details, entirely in the Ksav Yad Kodesh of the Heilige Gaon and Tzaddik, Rav Yisroel Yonah Landau, Av Beis Din of Kempen, written in 5574 L’PeK.

Entirely in his sacred handwriting and signed by him!

The Heilige Gaon, the "Baal HaRefuos, " Rav Yisroel Yonah Landau, Av Beis Din of Kempen (niftar 5584), was a Gaon Kadosh, a miracle worker, and an exalted Mekubal, renowned also as a tremendous Gaon in all areas of Torah. The Heilege "
Rosh HaBarzel" of Lublin referred to him as
"the great, sharp, and famous Gaon, the mighty shepherd, known by his holy name."

In 5546, he was crowned as Rav of the city of Kempen, a position he held for forty years. He was famous as a miracle worker, and his kamayos were widely sought after—even
Rabbi Akiva Eiger turned to him requesting a kameia for a sick bochur from his kehillah.

It is told that when he arrived at the Shalosh Seudos table of the
Heilige Maggid of Kozhnitz, though it was dark, the Maggid immediately sensed his presence and called out,
"Boruch Habo, the Rav of Kempen!"

From his chidushim, his sefer Maon HaBrochos (on Maseches Brochos) was printed.

"…The world trembled before him, for to him streamed multitudes of Yidden, and from distant lands they came to behold his greatness and hear his wisdom in Nigleh and Nistar. Any choleh who saw him was healed, for the pearls of Torah and Kabbalah hung upon his neck…"
—Maharash Orenstein, Av Beis Din of Kalisz

"…Therefore, my soul pleads exceedingly—may the Rav do this for my sake, and send me, via expedited mail, a kameia for him. Perhaps Hashem will grant success, and this will literally be like reviving a nefesh from Klal Yisroel…"
—Rabbi Akiva Eiger, in a request to Rabbeinu for a kameia for a sick bochur in his city.

"…Who has not heard of the splendor of his greatness? He was the Gaon of Geonim, the Sar HaTorah, and the Lion of the Bais Medrash, the wonder of his generation, a Chassid Kadosh and Tahor, and an Elokisdiker Mekubal, a master of salvation. Until today, hundreds of stories are still told of his wonders and miracles, his awe-inspiring deeds, and the tremendous power of his tefillos haKedoshah and his practical Kabbalah…"
—Rabbi Tzvi Yechezkel Michelsohn of Warsaw
