“Rabbeinu HaGadol” – The Unique Title Bestowed by the Beis Yosef
The mechaber, the gaon
Rabbeinu Yitzchok Abohav, is the only one to whom Maran the Beis Yosef refers as Rabbeinu HaGadol. The Beis Yosef cites his Torah over 200 times, mentioning that he had a ksav yad of his commentary on part of Tur Orach Chaim. The
Chida in Shem HaGedolim elaborates on his gadlus, and the
Shelah HaKadosh as well brings Menoras HaMaor numerous times with tremendous reverence.
