Sefer HaYoshor by Rabbeinu Tam in Pocket Edition – Printed by the Shapira Brothers, Zhitomir 1847
Sefer HaYoshor by Rabbeinu Yaakov Tam, "…a guide to living a life of righteousness and ethical rebuke, to turn from a crooked path and walk in the way that is straight in the eyes of Hashem and man…" Published by the esteemed and holy printing press of the grandchildren of the holy Rebbe of Slavita, in Zhitomir, 1847.
This edition is the first printed in the Zhitomir press, and one of the seforim printed during its first year of operation. The sefer was reprinted there again in 1860.
This is a pocket edition, likely designed to make it easier for those who wish to establish a regular study schedule, as it is written on the title page that it is intended for "a man who has fear of Hashem in his heart, to diligently study this sefer daily, and it will serve as a remembrance for him…"
The seforim of Slavita and Zhitomir are known for their sanctity and importance among tzaddikim and chassidim, who were meticulous in studying only from them. In addition to the merit of the holy printers themselves, no secular books were ever printed on these presses; they were used solely for the dissemination of Torah and Yiras Shamayim.
