The Mishnayos Moed of Rabbeinu Yaakov Emden, the Yaavetz, Zy”a, with Nearly 200 Handwritten Glosses!
Mishnayos Seder Moed, Amsterdam 1685, from the treasured library of the great gaon and sharp Torah giant, Rabbeinu Yaakov Emden, the Yaavetz, Zy”a, in which he studied and toiled in kedusha and tahara for close to forty years. Throughout this sacred volume, he penned his remarkable glosses in his holy handwriting, later printed in his sefer Lechem Shamayim and Mishneh Lechem. This copy contains over 170 long and short glosses, as well as many corrections of printing errors. The title page bears the stamp of the Beis Medrash "Kloiz" in Altona.
Sefer Lechem Shamayim — the Yaavetz’s commentary on Mishnayos — was first printed in Altona in 1733, covering Seder Zeroim and Moed. The second part, covering the remaining sedorim, was printed in 1768. At the end of the sefer, the Yaavetz added further insights and glosses on Seder Zeroim and Moed that he had developed in the 35 years since the first volume’s publication, naming this section
‘Mishneh Lechem’.
Most of the glosses found on the margins of this volume were later revised by the Yaavetz himself and incorporated into Mishneh Lechem, while some remained unpublished!
In good condition, with signs of use, wear, repairs, and some added paper to certain pages at the end. There are tears in a few places with minor loss of text, and the sefer has been rebound in a beautiful new leather binding.
