Letter of Ha’Gaon Rabbi Moshe Forhand of Makova,
about the bris milah of a ger tzedek 1932
A handwritten letter by the Makover Rav Rabbi Moshe Forhand on Erev Shabbos Shuva 5 of Tishrei 1932. He thanks the mohel Reb Lipa Shmalhausen for performing a bris milah on a ger tzedek, although it incurred a lot of difficulties and delays.
In the letter, the Makovah Rav sends regards to the father of the recipient, the Tzadik Rabbi Shlomo Boruch Shmalhausen Rav of the ‘Chevras Tehilim’ of Budapest, who also partook in the mitzvah.
The letter contains many brachos, including the words “yizke l’chasimas tovah b’soch klal Yisrael b’gashmius uv’rochnius, and V’yachtom b’seforon shel Tzadikim".
The Makova Rav was one of the leading Rabbonim in Hungary. He was a talmid of the Chasan Sofer Rabbi Dovid Zvi Ehernfeld of Mattersdorf and visited many Tzadikim such as the Shinover Rebbe, the Tolna Rebbe Reb Dovid, the Kedushas Yom Tov of Sighet and especially the Belzer Rebbe Rabbi Yisochor Dov zy”a.
He was Rav for many years and had hundreds of talmidim. He was known for his avodas Hashem. He passed away on 17 of Sivan 1944.
