Letter of Endorsement from the great Gaon Rabbi Yosef Elimelech Kahana, Rav of Ungvar.
A letter from the esteemed Rabbi Yosef Elimelech Kahana, with his signature and seal, regarding the printing of the sefer “Be’er Moshe” by the esteemed Rabbi Moshe Greenberger, Rav of Mihalevitz. It was written on official letterhead with the title “Shomrei HaChomos”, on Thursday, Parshas Vayikra, 1935.
This Endorsement was written for the esteemed Rabbi Naftali Katz Fried, son-in-law of the author, Rabbi Moshe Greenberger. He also authored glosses below the line “Pe’er Moshe” to elucidate the words of his esteemed father-in-law, the author. It should be noted that during the printing of the sefer in 1936, this approbation did not appear in the print, and has not been seen until now.
However, his name was mentioned in the list of payers in advance.
The holy Rabbi Yosef Elimelech Kahana, Rav of Ungvar, was one of the great rabbis and leaders of yeshivas in Hungary before the war. He was a disciple of the Rabbi Chaim Zvi Manheimer, Rav of Ungvar, known for his work “Ein HaBdolach, ” and by the author of “Kitzur Shulchan Aruch”. He basked in the holy shade of the Tzanzer Rov, his Son the Shinever Rav, and Rabbi Yehoshua of Belz ZY”A. He served as a rabbi in the holy communities of Gadani, Bonihad, Tzehelime, and Ungvar. He authored the sefer “Chiddushei Maharai Cohen.” Among his students were the Shevet Halevi, and Rabbi Yechezkel Shraga Lifshitz-Halberstam of Stropkov. He was martyred on the 10th of Sivan, 1944, almost reaching his 80s.
