Rabbi Eliezer Silber (1881-1968) was born in Lithuania and was among the first students of the gathering of Rabbi Chaim Ozer Gradzinski, Av Beit Din of Vilna. He also studied under the Gedolim Rabbi David Karliner and Rabbi Chaim Brisker. In 1907, he moved to the United States, where he became the president of the Union of Orthodox Rabbis of the United States and Canada and was one of the leading Orthodox rabbis in American Jewry. He became well-known for his rescue efforts during World War II. He served as a rabbi in various cities in New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Ohio.
