"For he was truly the pride of Israel, a true Tzaddik and a genuine Chassid" – The Shevet Levi on the Av Beit Din of Komemiyut – Aleph Nisan 1979
A letter of condolence from the renowned Rabbi Shmuel Halevi Wosner, the Shevet Levi zt"l, to comfort the sons of the revered Rabbi Binyamin Mendelson zt"l, Av Beit Din of Komemiyut, upon the passing of their father.
He writes: "For it is doubly difficult to comfort the family and all of Torah Jewry for this great loss, for he was truly the pride of Israel, a righteous and true Chassid."
Rabbi Binyamin Mendelson, Av Beit Din of Komemiyut (1904-1979), was born to Rabbi Menachem Mendel Mendelson, a rabbi in Płock, Poland, and a Chassid of Alexander. In 1934, he immigrated to the Land of Israel, and under the influence of the Amrei Emet of Ger, he was appointed as the Av Beit Din of Kfar Ata and later became the Av Beit Din of the Chassidic village of Komemiyut. He worked tirelessly to uphold the sanctity of Shemittah in Eretz Yisrael. He was highly regarded and close to the leading Gedolim of his time, including the Chazon Ish, the Divrei Yoel of Satmar, and the Bobover Rebbe.
