Shtar on the Distribution of a Perpetual Fund of the Tauben and Lvuv Families in Pressburg –
Signed by the Rabbi Avraham Zvi Lvuv
A "Perteilung" (distribution) document dated Erev Rosh Hashanah 5594 (1833), detailing the allocation of a perpetual fund established by the late Rebbetzin Rivka A”H, wife of the late R’ Hirsch Tauben Z"L.
R’ Avraham Zvi Lvuv (1777–1834) son of the esteemed R’ Mendel, grandson of R’ Zvi Hirsch Lvuv, was a parnas and leader of the Pressburg community during the time of the Chasam Sofer, who greatly admired him. He was a powerful and influential figure in the region, and all major community matters were brought to him. In addition to his leadership, he was a great talmid chacham, constantly engaged in Torah study, and all his actions were for the sake of Heaven.
At his funeral, the Chasam Sofer eulogized him, stating: "I was young and have grown old, and I have never seen a leader as righteous and full of good middos as him." It is recorded that the Chasam Sofer remarked that his passing shortened his own life.
Among his descendants was the renowned gaon and tzaddik, R’ Moshe Nosson Nota Lvuv ZT"L, Av Beis Din of Makova, and his distinguished family.
