Written on Erev Shabbos Kodesh Vayigash, 10 Teves 5710 – A certification for the bochur Chananya Yom Tov Lipa Steinberg, son of the distinguished Torah scholar R’ Shmuel Steinberg, sheyichyeh, affirming that he is still a bochur and has never been previously married, and that he is permitted to have kiddushin arranged for him k’das Moshe v’Yisroel.
The Gaon Rabbi Shmuel Ehrenfeld, Av Beis Din of Mattersdorf (5651–5740), was a descendant of the Chasam Sofer and one of the great rabbanim of Austria before the war. He received semicha at the age of 19 from R’ Meir Arik and R’ Yosef Engel. In 5686, he succeeded his father as Rav of Mattersdorf, and his halachic rulings were held in high regard throughout Klal Yisroel. In 5699, he moved to America due to the looming Nazi threat, where he established Yeshivas Chasan Sofer on the East Side, which later relocated to Boro Park.
