A letter from HaRav HaChossid Rav Chaim Mendel Cohen, from the Holy City of Yerushalayim-Katamon—patriarch of the distinguished Cohen family and esteemed father-in-law of the eminent posek hador, HaGaon HaAdir Rav Yechezkel Roth Zt”l, Baal Emek HaTeshuvah—addressed to HaGaon HaChossid Rav Hersh Pinchas HaKohen Moskowitz of Yerushalayim. Both were ardent chassidim of the Rebbe of Satmar Zt”l in Eretz Yisroel and among the founders of the Satmar neighborhood in Katamon.
In 5723 (1963), Rav Chaim Mendel Cohen spent an extended period in Williamsburg, USA, basking in the holiness of the Rebbe of Satmar ZY”A. During that time, he penned several letters to his close friend and confidant, R’ Hersh Pinchas, keeping him informed of the happenings and hashpa’os in the Rebbe’s court. In this letter, he recounts a lengthy and remarkable conversation he merited to have with Maran the Satmar Rebbe Zt”l.
