Request Letter from HaGaon Rav Yisroel Yaakov Fischer, Ra’avad of the Eidah HaChareidis, Baal Even Yisroel – 5734
A letter sent to the administrators of Ezras Torah on 17 Iyar 5734, in which the Gaon Zt”l requests a loan of at least twenty thousand liras to assist his two sons, the chassanim HaGaon Rav Yehuda Fischer (later a member of the Beis Din Tzedek of the Eidah HaChareidis) and HaRav Moshe Fischer, both of whom were among the lomdei haTorah in the Holy City. He concludes his letter with the hope that his request will be fulfilled without delay.
HaGaon Rav Yisroel Yaakov Fischer (5685–5763) served as the Rav of the Zichron Moshe neighborhood in Yerushalayim for nearly forty years and was a Dayan in the Beis Din Tzedek of the Eidah HaChareidis. In his later years, he was appointed Ra’avad. He was regarded as one of the preeminent poskim in Yerushalayim, and his teshuvos were published in the nine-volume series Shu”t Even Yisroel.
