Shiftei Yeshenim by the author of Shiftei Chachamim – Second Edition with the Addition of Chassidic Sefarim – Zolkiew 1806
Shiftei Yeshenim, a catalog of sefarim, their authors, summaries, and printing details, compiled by Rabbi Shabtai Meshorer Bass, the author of Shiftei Chachamim. Includes a second section listing sefarim of the early Chassidic masters. Printed by R. Mordechai Rabinstein, second edition, Zolkiew 1806.
In the introduction, R. Shabtai quotes the Shelah HaKadosh, stating: "Even one who is a complete am ha’aretz and is pained by his lack of understanding… if he reads the names of the Chumash, Nach, Shas, etc., and desires them, crying over his inability to comprehend them—he is beloved before Hashem and will ultimately merit understanding."
This edition is essentially the second printing of the original Amsterdam 1680 edition, which cataloged approximately 2,000 sefarim. However, this version includes, for the first time, a second section with a separate title page, compiled by R. Uri Tzvi Rubinstein, listing many sefarim printed after the first edition. This section introduces, for the first time, Chassidic sefarim such as Or HaMeir, Noam Elimelech, Kedushas Levi, Tanya, Toldos Yaakov Yosef, Shivchei HaBaal Shem Tov, and more.
