Three foundational scholarly sfarim in their first edition – Noda Besh’aarim, She’eilot U’teshuvot Beit HaLevi, and Sha’arei Yerushalmi – 1863-1866

Noda Besh’aarim, Second Edition, which contains She’eilot U’teshuvot on the four sections of Shulchan Aruch, chiddushim on Masechet Yevamos, and drashos and pilpulim, by the Gaon Rabbi Dov Berish Ashkenazi, Av Beis Din of Slonim and Lublin. It was printed by the author’s brother, in the press of Rabbi Nathan Shriptagiser, First Edition, Warsaw 1864.
After the title page, there is a short introduction by the author, where, in his great humility, he explains that he did not write anything unless it was "with careful thought and diligent study… not out of pride did I do this, but to inspire the heart of the learner… for I am young in years… and I ask… before the learners… not to hasten to tear down the structure, for I am confident that after careful study, they will see that my words are based on the foundation of reason and understanding…"

She’eilot U’teshuvot Beit HaLevi, chiddushim on halachos and explanations of several sugyos, by the first of the Brisker dynasty, the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Dov Halevi. Printed by Rabbi Yosef Reuven Ram, First Edition, Vilna 1863.

Sha’arei Yerushalmi, a pleasant commentary on Maseches Zera’im, with glosses on Maseches Demai and Shevi’is by Maran HaGra from Vilna, along with glosses and chiddushim on other tractates of the Yerushalmi, as well as glosses and chiddushim on tractates from the Bavli and the Rif, by the Gaon Rabbi Dov Berish Ashkenazi, Av Beis Din of Slonim and Lublin. Printed by Rabbi Nathan Shriptagiser, First Edition, Warsaw 1866.

At the top of the title pages of the first two sfarim, there is a notation of ownership: "Shma Malkeinu Atiratenu u’varech Nachalas Papi’erna, " with the words, along with the family name, creating the combination "Shma’on Papi’erna" (from the family of the wealthy Rabbi Shaul Papirna of Paritch).

On the title page of the last two sfarim, it states: "Ma’aser, " as a reminder that the sefer was purchased with Ma’aser money.

Condition: Very good, original binding, a few minor stains, some wear and scuffing at the edges of the binding.
