Letter of the renowned Gaon Rabbi Nochum Boruch Ginzburg of Yanova
A special letter with brachos written during the aseres yemei teshuva 1938, from Ha’Gaon Rabbi Boruch Nochum Ginzberg hy"d of Yanova (Janów), author of Mekor Boruch – to the Gaon Rabbi Shmuel Lopian Ba’al R’vcha Shematisa (one of the most important commentaries on the Shev Shemtisa from the Ketzos Ha’choshen) and beloved son of the Mashgiach Rabbi Elya Lopian Ba’al Lev Eliyahu.
In the letter, Ha’Gaon Rabbi Boruch Nochum expresses his astonishment that in this generation of promiscuity and deceit, there are bachurim who toil to understand the Torah and heaps brachos on the young Shmuel. He promises to study the chidushim that he sent once the month of Tishrei passes. He then sends regards to his father Rabbi Elya Lopian.
Ha’Gaon Rabbi Nochum Boruch Ginzburg of Yanova (1882-1941), one of the greatest Rabbonim in Lithuania before the Holocaust, was born in Ponevezh. He was orphaned as a young child and was a beloved student of Rabbi Itzele Ponevezher. He served as Rav in several small towns before being appointed AB"D of Yanova. His seforim’ Mekor Boruch on Inyanei Kodshim gained acclaim throughout Lithuania. After the Nazis occupied Lithuania, he was arrested and suffered severe abuse at the hands of the Nazis until being murdered on erev Tisha B’Av 1941. He left no descendants, and his writings are his memory.
